Tina Krüger is a multidisciplinary artist, photographer, documentary filmmaker, and communication designer with an MA degree in Visual Anthropology from Leiden University in the Netherlands. Since 2008 she lives and works in Maputo, Mozambique.
She has participated in various national and international exhibitions and residencies, amongst which the residency Catchupa Factory 2021 with Akinbode Akinbiyi and Eustáquio Neves in Mindelo – Cape Verde, Joburg Art Fair 2020, the photography encounter DemocraSEE Maputo 2020 with John Fleetwood, Author Photography residency with Mauro Pinto & Hector Mediavilla in 2019, and the international exhbition Mystery of Foreign Affairs at the Kunstverein Schwerin in Germany.
She is the co-founder and creative director of the multimedia production company Aguacheiro Design & Multimédia since 2013. For two years (2017-2018) she was a lecturer in the BA Film and Multimedia program at the Arts and Culture University in Maputo. She is the director and co-founder of emptyroom.art, an international arts hub based in Maputo.
In her work she is interested in topics around identity, corporality, sensory knowledge, feminism, unusual perspectives of everyday life, environmental issues, and the intersection between anthropology and art. She sees her art practice as a way to process her own personal struggles and express them in a way to provoke others into reflection & critical thinking. The way she works is at a conjunction of scholarly and creative research, auto-ethnography and abstracted expression. Her preferred mediums are video, photography and the written word.
